Momenta's new Video Library provides access to new video work by video artists who have exhibited their work previously in Momenta's exhibition program during gallery hours.

This important resource is available  to all individuals interested in video art and provides an important archive of Momenta's commitment to the presentation of video work. The library contains work by now established artists who had early exposure through Momenta, including  Omer Fast, Momoyo Torimitsu, and Kristin Lucas.

One of the most important aspects of this project is the fact that it is a permanent exhibition, and will grow and be used increasingly as time progresses. Unlike an ordinary exhibition or even a catalog project, this facility will continue for years to come, expanding as new work is added. It provides a secondary exhibition opportunity, and is a valuable resource to the public. Due to the ephemeral nature of time-based practices, and the deterioration of magnetic tape over even a single decade, preserving the history of the early artists working in the media is of particular importance not just to the history of Momenta, but to artists everywhere.

The Video Library is now installed at Momenta and the public is welcome to view works. There will be also an inaugural exhibition celebrating its opening with screenings by featured artists which will run April 20 through April 30, 2007. Specific works and screening times to be announced.

Momenta Art's video library was made possible through funding by the
National Endowment for the Arts.
