"Oh New Doctor! Can you extirpate this new tumor which is my tongue? And the new therapies, the new medications? Where are they?"

Miguel Ventura's installation, entitled Cantonese Primer, consists of over 30 toddlers' tee-shirts with multi-lingual slogans and laminated text in various languages, including Spanish, Swahili, German, and English.

This strange hybrid-language is a complex system referencing educational pamphlets used by the far right and the far left. These slogans, familiar and perverse, contain an insular logic. The didactic imperatives combined with the children's clothing create a sense of powerlessness while the obsessive and obscure nature of the artist's self-imposed systems manifests itself in a gallows humor of enforced identities.

Ventura's numerous solo exhibitions include New Monuments to the Enemies Within, Galeria Arte Contemporaneo, Mexico City, and Miguel Ventura: Drawings, Museum of Modern Art, Mexico City. Following his exhibition at Momenta, Ventura has participated in numerous exhibitions, including Jack Tilton Gallery, NYC, Cristinerose Gallery, NYC, and Cambio, curated by Kenny Schachter, NYC.
