Rachel Lowther's untitled installation of related sculptures and drawings weave a nonlinear narrative of frozen gestures. The three drawings are encased in hand-carved wooden frames inspired by Van Eyck's Last Judgment. Dense, apocalyptic and silent, each drawing centers around a male figure. In order to fully enter the installation the viewer must step over a site-specific three-dimensional line of black plaster, as well as a roughly articulated severed head made of wax and encrusted with feathers. | ||||

These repressed yet animalistic gestures are bracketed by two resin ospreys perched high on the gallery walls. As overseers to this open-ended narrative, their gaze appears icy, unyielding, cruel, and almost human. Rachel Lowther received her MFA from Hunter College, NYC, and also attended Stadelschule, Frankfurt, Germany, and Chelsea College of Art and Design, London. She has exhibited her work at Sculpture Center, NYC, Bronwyn Keenan, NYC, Yearsley Spring Gallery, Philadelphia, PA, and The Approach, London.
