George Kimmerling's new installation of digital prints and drawings, entitled
Clipped, presents a broad narrative about desire, violence, crime, love
and loyalty in the lives of men and boys. Since 1991, the artist has been
collecting and archiving material from U.S. newspapers, vintage children's
books, consumer magazines, architectural texts, infotainment Web sites,
club postcards, and religious publications. Here, Kimmerling presents
more than 120 documents, featuring characters both real and fictional

Elián Gonzalez, Nathaniel Bar-Jonah, and many more who go unidentified.
In a boldly colorful environment inspired by print media and graphic design,
Clipped offers a tale of masculinity as contested ground, where the blurred
lines between victim, hero, perp, father, son, student, teacher, and athlete
are crossed again and again.
George Kimmerling has received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the
Corcoran School of Art, a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Rhode Island
School of Design, and attended the Whitney Museum of Art Independent Study
Program. His work has been exhibited at the New Museum of Contemporary
Art as part of the Altoids Curiously Strong Collection in New York, at
PS1 Contemporary Art Center, Long Island City, NY, and at Bellwether Gallery,
Brooklyn, NY.
