Susan Goldman works with the idea of creating a system and then packaging it, sometimes literally, sometimes conceptually, or a combination of both.

"Modular Picture System" is a series of 7 computer generated images, all 30" x 44" Iris prints, mounted in Plexiglas boxes. Each image is composed of three sections: logos, a drawing, and a photograph. She formulates the "Modular Picture System" to create each image sequentially, changing the contents within each section

 

   
   

while the overall composition stays the same. The effect of the "Modular Picture System" is the production of a unique and playful combination of visual elements.

"Logo/Number Drawings" are a series of drawings, all 9" x 12", ink and pencil on vellum. All the elements in the drawings are traced--corporate logos, numbers from financial market listings, and various buildings. The drawings are purely compositional. The elements are used as a kind of raw material, replacing their intended origin or function with a visual emphasis. There are more than 100 drawings in the series.
