Stephen Antonson examines public space and public memory with his Untitled installation exhibited at Momenta. Antonson creates a drop ceiling of backlit, frosted plexiglas tiles, silk-screened with an aerial view of plane crash wreckage from a photograph printed in the New York Times.

Like Warhol's disaster series, this cold yet emotionally charged image blurs distinctions between media and art while emphasizing the power of an image to create a public memory. The ceiling tiles, when seen individually, appear as abstract patterns. These decorative crash fragments create an unsettling atmosphere which is intensified by the sound of static emanating from speakers set into the ceiling.
