Dale Anthony literalizes the painted surface by adding detritus from the studio floor in a pseudo-tromp l'oeil manner, through which he investigates the constructs of painting.
These works, simultaneously cynical and sincere, operate as commentary alluding to the "death of painting" while attempting to reinvent a formal language of personal gestures. |

Created with throw-away materials, these mixed-media paintings imply an open-ended personal narrative. They pose questions about value and meaning, asking the viewer to complete the narrative based on clues carefully drawn from the rubbish heap. Dale Anthony lives and works in New Zealand. He studied at Wellington Polytechnic and Elam Art School in New Zealand, and has exhibited his work at Peter McLeavey Gallery, NYC, and 450 Broadway Gallery, NYC. |
