Momenta provides opportunities for underrepresented and emerging artists and is committed to organizing shows that are critically, socially, and aesthetically aware.

Momenta has always been a small, grassroots organization, and we depend on funding from individuals more than from any other funding source. Literally, we can not do it without you.

Despite the current economic challenges, Momenta continues to produce a unique program of emerging and underrepresented artists. Momenta's recent solo shows of Seher Shah, Mira Schor, Hunter Reynolds, and collaborative projects like the current one, with work by George Porcari, Jorge Pardo, and Naomi Fisher, are testaments to the quality of artists exhibited by Momenta regularly. Momenta is committed to producing shows that make a difference for viewers and for artists. In the words of those who have shown here:

Momenta has played an absolutely critical role in the New York art scene for close to two decades. S--t, we're all getting old now. But we don't have to get sentimental or stodgy about it, and certainly Momenta hasn't stopped being alive, critical and totally necessary. The market will go up and down, and commercial galleries will do their thing accordingly. Momenta, on the other hand, will continue to be an important exhibition space, especially to those starting out and to those who are under-represented. I was lucky to have my first studio visit and first show at Momenta.
Omer Fast

Spanning from the initial invitation to the closing moment of my exhibition, I knew I was hugely fortunate to show with Momenta. To wit: Existing for the encouragement and support of artists, with the imagination to present work like mine and work like someone hugely dissimilar to myself in a physical space that shape-shifts with each show according to each need, Momenta draws veteran audiences as well as initiates in the process, and an entity permitting me to write this insane run-on sentence as part of the record ... must be nothing short of a loveably anarchic institution.
Rochelle Feinstein

Momenta may be "necessary" and "lovably anarchic" but that doesn't ensure its existence. Momenta can only exist with your support. Before the end of 2010, our goal is to raise $10,000. Compared to large institutions, this is a modest goal. But for us, it is crucial, and even a small donation makes a real difference.

I hope you will support Momenta this year. Every donation is appreciated.
