Liza Phillips's paintings are derived from digital relief maps downloaded from the internet, remapped and enlarged onto panels using an airbrush. The paintings refuse to come into focus for the viewer, forcing an unresolvable abstract/topo-graphical view of the earth and an uneasy alliance of depiction and abstraction.

 

   
    Phillips is a graduate of Vassar College and the Chelsea College of Art and Design in London, and she has attended the Skowhegan Residency Program in Maine. Her work has been exhibited at Whitechapel Gallery, London, Weatherspoon Art Gallery, NC, and the Art Exchange Art Fair in NYC. Since her exhibition at Momenta, she has exhibited at the University Art Museum, California State University, San Bernardino, CA, Grand Central Art Center, Santa Ana, CA, Eyewash, Brooklyn, NY, and White Columns, NYC.
