Nico Jenkins's installation Untitled (Searched Room) combines refuse from a ransacked squat with photographs taken in the same space.

As we bear witness to an unseen act, the elegant photographs of the recently removed refuse operate as both formal compositions and missing evidence. These photos ask the viewer to catalog the lives of the room's former inhabitants as well as the destruction caused by security forces and the artist.

A video of the destroyed building in Paris provides further inconclusive evidence. Was the building condemned by the authorities or was it a terrorist target? What relationshipdoes the artist and/or the viewer have to this unexplained, yet visually appealing, destruction.

Nico Jenkins studied at Hunter College in New York and received a BFA from San Francisco Art Institute. He has exhibited with Stephen Wirtz Gallery and Push Art Space in San Francisco, CA, Galerie Fonz Werner, Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and has had solo exhibitions at Galerie Titanuk, Turku, Finland and Chamber Fine Arts, NYC.
